Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- Three people were detained in Sylhet on Wednesday night after they allegedly entered a polling centre posing as election observers.

The incident took place at Shahjalal Jameya Islamia School and College centre around 10 pm.

According to locals, the three individuals entered the centre wearing observer cards around their necks.

Their presence created suspicion among voters and residents in the area. Locals questioned their identity and the organisation they represented.

At one stage, locals gathered at the gate of the centre and detained them.

Later, police arrived at the scene and took them into custody.

The names of the detainees and the organisation they claimed to represent could not be immediately confirmed.
