Dhaka, Oct. 27 -- Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday said the number of SIM cards registered under a single individual will be reduced ahead of the upcoming national elections.
Speaking after the 15th meeting of the Law-and-Order Advisory Committee at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, he said, "A person will be allowed to have a maximum of seven SIM cards."
He explained the move was aimed at preventing misuse of SIM cards in criminal activities.
"One person often commits a crime using another person's SIM card. As a result, the real culprit remains out of reach. Investigations frequently reveal that the SIM card used does not belong to the offender.
