Dhaka, March 27 -- A sedition case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 575 others on charges of conspiring to overthrow the interim government and waging a civil war.

The case was registered with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka following approval from the Home Ministry, BSS reports citing a press release.

The court has taken the case into cognizance and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter.

Among the 576 accused, the names of 74 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, have been mentioned in the case.

Dr. Rabbi Alam, Vice President of the US Awami League, has been named as the second accused.
