Dhaka, May 30 -- The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has not stayed the effectiveness of the gazette notification issued by the Election Commission (EC), declaring BNP-nominated candidate Ishraque Hossain as the Mayor of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

The apex court on Thursday disposed of the leave-to-appeal petition that sought a stay on the election tribunal's verdict and the effectiveness of the EC gazette.

A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, passed the order.

In its observations, the apex court said the questions raised in this case fall within the constitutional and legal mandate of the Election Commission.
