Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- Independent candidate Rumeen Farhana, contesting with the "duck" symbol, has been unofficially declared elected from the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, defeating her nearest rival by a margin of 37,568 votes.

According to the results from 151 polling centres, Rumeen secured 117,495 votes. Her closest contender, Maulana Junaid Al Habib of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, a candidate backed by the BNP alliance, received 79,927 votes.

The Brahmanbaria-2 constituency comprises parts of Sarail, Ashuganj and Bijoynagar upazilas.

The seat has a total of 499,448 registered voters. Voter turnout was recorded at 44.8 percent, according to election officials.
