Dhaka, Aug. 28 -- Residents and visitors in the capital suffered immensely on Wednesday due to severe traffic gridlock for several hours on different roads.
Traffic came almost to a standstill due to a blockade initiated by engineering students protesting at Shahbagh area in the city.
The situation worsened after the protesters hurled brick-bats at police who reportedly charged batons, used water cannons, sound grenades, and tear gas shells to disperse them.
By 4:00 PM Wednesday, vehicles remained stuck in long tailbacks across Purana Paltan, Farmgate, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Moghbazar, Elephant Road, Science Lab and other adjoining areas at connected roads.
The traffic congestion that started on the day continued until evening.
