Dhaka, Nov. 20 -- The country's national gas grid is set to start receiving an additional around 5.0 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of natural gas from the onshore Kailashtila gas field starting next week.

This additional gas resource was found following a workover of Kailashtila-1 well by state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (BAPEX) this week.

State-owned Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) hired BAPEX to carry out the workover job to enhance the Kailashtila gas field's overall natural gas output.

With the supply of new gas, the Kailashtila field's overall output has increased to around 49 mmcfd from previous 44 mmcfd, said a senior Petrobangla official.
