Dhaka, Sept. 3 -- After a 33-year hiatus, the stage for Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election is now finally ready, with 182 candidates, including 45 women, contesting 25 executive posts.
Female candidates are in the race for a significant number of both reserved seats and general positions, although none is running for vice-president (VP).
For the general secretary (GS) post, two women are in the spotlight. Syeda Onnanya Faria from the Department of Law and Justice is an independent candidate, while Tanjila Hossain Boishakhi from the Department of Government and Politics represents the BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) panel.
