Dhaka, Dec. 22 -- BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said the recent attacks on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star were a shame for the nation.

"The attackers burned and destroyed the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, and the whole world watched it. We cannot simply express regret or apologise and end it there," he said at a views-exchange meeting with editors of daily newspapers and online portals, heads of news at radio and television stations, and other media professionals at a hotel in Dhaka.

The BNP organised the event to mark the homecoming of its acting chairman Tarique Rahman after 18 years of enforced political exile.
