Dhaka, Jan. 5 -- The inflation rate increased in December on a point-to-point basis as prices of both food and non-food items went up during the period.

Overall inflation stood at 8.49 per cent in December, up from 8.29 per cent in November.

Food inflation was recorded at 7.71 per cent during the period under review, while non-food inflation was recorded at 9.13 per cent.
