Dhaka, June 28 -- India has imposed a ban on the import of several jute products and woven fabrics from Bangladesh through all land ports.

According to the new directive, these items will now only be allowed to enter India via the Nhava Sheva seaport in Maharashtra.

The decision was announced on Friday in New Delhi by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), amid growing strain in trade relations between the two neighbouring countries, bdnews24.com reports.

The DGFT said the restriction will not apply to Bangladeshi goods in transit to Nepal or Bhutan through Indian territory.

These items, however, cannot be re-exported to India via Nepal or Bhutan.
