Dhaka, May 7 -- Leaders of the IEB, Chittagong Centre - set to celebrate the institution's 77th anniversary today (Wednesday) - urged the government to take steps for recruitment of engineers under a special cadre, similar to the BCS (health) cadre.

Manjare Khorshed Alam, chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Chattogram, spoke of the demand at a view-exchange meeting with journalists on Tuesday. Among others, IEB Chattogram vice chairmen Shakawat Hossain and Rafiqul Alam were present. The IEB Chittagong Centre will also hold a rally in observance of its 77th founding anniversary. The centre was founded in 1948 as the first engineers' institution of the country.
