Dhaka, June 8 -- Sheikh Kabir Hossain, uncle of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has left the country for Singapore through the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The flight carrying him departed from the Dhaka airport on Sunday morning, Prothom Alo reported quoting intelligence sources.

A little known figure before Awami League assumed office in 2009, Sheikh Kabir rose to fame after Sheikh Hasina became the prime minister.

He was very influential in different sectors, including the financial sector, and held various top positions in 23 institutions, organisations and agencies during the Sheikh Hasina regime.
