Dhaka, Dec. 15 -- The Advisory Council Committee on Government Purchase has recommended the procurement of one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the international spot market to meet the country's growing energy demand.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the committee at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today, with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair on Monday.

The proposal was placed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division following the Public Procurement Rules 2025, reports BSS.

Under the proposal, one LNG cargo will be procured for delivery during January 9-10, 2026, at a total cost of about Tk 4.20 billion. The unit price has been fixed at US$9.99 per MMBTU.
