Dhaka, Jan. 5 -- The government has instructed television channels to suspend the broadcast of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Bangladesh.

In a letter sent to television channels on Monday (January 5), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued the directive.

According to the letter, the ministry has taken note of a decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to exclude Bangladesh star cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad for the IPL, scheduled to begin on March 26.

The ministry said no reasonable explanation for the decision is known and that it has caused widespread hurt, resentment and anger among the people of Bangladesh.
