Dhaka, Feb. 10 -- The interim government has assured the BNP of working to hold the general elections by December this year, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday.

Mr Fakhrul made the remarks while talking to reporters following a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at his residence - Jamuna state guest house - earlier in the evening.

A three-member BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, met with the chief adviser to discuss the country's political and economic situation, including reforms and the upcoming elections.
