Dhaka, Oct. 7 -- Gold prices in Bangladesh have surpassed Tk 200,000- mark per bhori (11.664 grams) for the first time in history.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Monday announced an increase of Tk 3,150 per bhori for 22-carat gold, setting the new rate at Tk 200,726 -- the highest ever recorded in the country. The new rates will come into effect today (Tuesday).

According to the new rates, 22-carat gold will now cost Tk 200,726 per bhori, 21-carat Tk 191,605, 18-carat Tk 164,229, and traditionally acquired gold Tk 136,445 per bhori.
