Dhaka, March 6 -- Former Awami League lawmaker and freedom fighter Md Aftab Uddin Sarkar was arrested in the early hours of today while hiding at a relative's house in the New Senpara area of Rangpur metropolis.

Aftab Uddin Sarkar, who previously served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nilphamari-1 (Domar-Dimla) constituency, was apprehended during a raid led by Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Md Majid Ali, according to Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ataur Rahman.

Following his arrest, Sarkar was taken to the Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station under tight security, BSS reports.
