Dhaka, April 15 -- Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Tuesday that he did not make any statement about the current government remaining in power for five years.
"The people said it," he added.
He made the remarks during a media briefing following a meeting of the core committee on law and order held at the Secretariat.
Chowdhury further said that only the Chief Adviser has the authority to comment on the timing of the next elections. "I have nothing more to add on that," he said.
Addressing recent violence, Chowdhury acknowledged that the attack at Chittagong's DC Hill, which occurred on the eve of the Pahela Baishakh celebration, had not been anticipated.
