Dhaka, Oct. 18 -- Five flights were diverted from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon following a major fire at the airport's cargo village.

According to airport sources, the diversions began after 3pm on Saturday (October 18), soon after the fire broke out in the cargo village area near Gate No 8 of the airport.

Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said a total of 32 fire-fighting units are currently working to bring the blaze under control.

Two fire units of the Bangladesh Air Force, along with personnel from the Navy, Army, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), have also joined the operation, they said.
