Dhaka, Oct. 18 -- A major fire has been burning for more three and a half hours at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, officials say.

The blaze began around 2:30pm on Saturday. Firefighters arrived soon after being alerted. As the flames spread, more units joined the operation.

By 6pm, the fire was still burning despite hours of effort to control it.

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, 37 units from 13 different stations have been deployed. The cargo village is a key facility where imported goods are stored before clearance and delivery.

The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate said firefighting teams from the army and air force are assisting.
