Dhaka, Oct. 23 -- Begum Tahura Ali, a former member of parliament (MP) from a reserved seat for women and director of the Citizen Group, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early Thursday.

She died at 6:11 am while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka, according to a post on Citizen Cables' Facebook page.

Tahura's daughter, popular actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon, also confirmed her mother's death in a post on her Facebook page.

"With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Begum Tahura Ali. May Almighty Allah forgive her, grant her Jannatul Ferdous, and give us all strength and patience to bear this loss," she wrote.
