Dhaka, April 27 -- The Election Commission (EC) has published a gazette declaring Mohammad Ishraque Hossain, BNP's candidate during the 2020 city corporation election, as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Sunday confirmed the information.

The Election Commission action followed a verdict of Dhaka's Chief Judicial Magistrate's court delivered on March 27, 2025 declaring Ishraque as the winner of Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral election, which was held on February 1, 2020.

Ishraque was present in court during the verdict announcement.

In the ruling, government's gazette regarding former mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, who ran from Awami League, was annulled.
