Dhaka, March 7 -- Eastern Bank PLC (EBL), a leading private sector financial institution, has filed a defamation lawsuit against one of its clients, demanding Tk 2.0 billion as compensation, in the First Joint District Judge Court of Dhaka recently.

According to a press release, the court took cognizance of the case and issued a summons against the client, Md. Murtoza Ali.

The press statement said the client, Md. Mortoza Ali, an account holder of Chandgaon Branch, Chattogram of Eastern Bank PLC, out of malicious motives, submitted a petition for filing a case against the board of directors, managing director, and 46 senior officials of Eastern Bank PLC in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Chattogram.
