Dhaka, Jan. 29 -- Stocks closed lower on Wednesday as investors remained active on both sides of the trading fence, with selling pressure dominating a particular large-cap.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), declined by 13.91 points to settle at 5,112.51.

The blue-chip index, DS30, comprising 30 leading companies, dropped by 0.67 points to 1,896.30, while the DSES Index, representing Shariah-compliant companies, fell by 7.95 points to 1,137.52 at the close.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 3.14 billion, down 4.30 per cent from the previous trading day.
