Dhaka, May 30 -- A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has triggered heavy rain and gusty winds across coastal and other parts of Bangladesh, severely disrupting daily life in the capital and elsewhere in the country.

On Thursday, Dhaka recorded 83 mm of rainfall-the highest in the city this year-causing widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion.

The situation worsened by noon, with key areas such as Jurain, Demra, Badda, Mirpur, Green Road, and New Market submerged in knee-deep water by evening, leading to severe traffic disruptions.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Maizdi in Noakhali recorded the highest rainfall at 168 mm, followed by Faridpur (159 mm), Teknaf (147 mm), and Khepupara (146 mm) as o...
