Dhaka, May 10 -- A relentless heat wave is sweeping over many parts of Bangladesh, with temperature soaring well above seasonal averages, disrupting public life and posing serious health risks across the country.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the ongoing heat wave, categorised as "severe" in parts of the country, has pushed temperature beyond 40degC in several districts including Chuadanga and Rajshahi.

Chuadanga witnessed maximum 41.2degC on Friday followed by Rajshahi 40degC and Dhaka 39.2.

The BMD has issued warnings advising people to take precautionary measures and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours as the heat wave might persist for a couple of days.
