Dhaka, Feb. 11 -- The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has instructed the police to take legal action against CNG- and petrol-run autorickshaw drivers who charge fares exceeding the meter rate.

According to the directive, drivers found guilty of fare-related violations may face a fine of up to Tk 50,000, six months' imprisonment, or both.

This directive was issued in a letter signed by Sitangshu Shekhar Bishwas, Director (Engineering) of BRTA, and sent to the Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Tuesday.
