Dhaka, Jan. 16 -- A civic memorial is being held at the Parliament complex to mark the death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

The event began at 3pm on Friday at the Parliament's South Plaza and is being chaired by former chief justice Syed JR Mudassir Husain, bdnews24.com reports.

Senior leaders from across the political spectrum, as well as professionals and diplomats, are attending the gathering. Those present include BNP chief Tarique Rahman and the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Khaleda died on Dec 30 after spending 40 days in treatment at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital. Funeral prayers were held the following day at the Parliament complex, drawing a massive turnout. She was later buried at Zia Udyan beside...
