Dhaka, Feb. 16 -- The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has withdrawn the directive issued to file case against drivers of petrol or CNG-powered auto-rickshaws for charging fares higher than the metered rate.

BRTA informed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) about the suspension of the directive through an official letter on Sunday, according to local media reports.

Earlier, on February 10, BRTA had sent a letter to the DMP stating that legal action would be taken against auto-rickshaw drivers charging fares exceeding the metered rate.

The directive stated that cases should be filed against drivers of gas or petrol-powered four-stroke three-wheeler auto-rickshaws who collect fares beyond the government-set metered rate.
