Dhaka, March 23 -- The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a statement on Sunday confirmed that the news of missing 33 BGB personnel spreading on some social networking sites was rumour.

"Various social media platforms are spreading false information that 33 BGB members have gone missing in the Naf River while on a mission in the past two days," the statement said.

The information spread through social media is baseless and purposeful, reports BSS citing the statement.

The actual fact is that on the early hours of March 22, 2025, a boat carrying Rohingyas capsised due to strong currents while illegally entering Bangladesh by sea near Paschimpara Ghat in Shahparirdwip, Teknaf, it stated.
