Dhaka, March 8 -- Golam Kibria Apu, the newly appointed joint convenor of the Bangladesh Democratic Students Council (BDSC) has been suspended amid allegations that he had attempted to extort money from an internet businessman.

The group has also sought an explanation from Apu regarding the allegations reports UNB.

In a statement issued on Friday night, the BDSC said, "Due to violations of organisational discipline and moral misconduct, Golam Kibria Apu's membership in the central committee of the Bangladesh Democratic Students Union has been suspended. He has been instructed to provide a satisfactory explanation to the convenor within one working day as to why he should not be expelled."
