Dhaka, Jan. 25 -- Auto-rickshaw drivers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Sunday, demanding permission for auto-rickshaw operations and an end to what they described as police harassment.
The blockade began in the morning in the New Bazar area of Sreepur, where around 200 to 250 auto-rickshaw drivers gathered and occupied the highway.
They staged a protest calling for legal approval to operate auto-rickshaws on the highway and an immediate halt to what they termed unjustified police actions, reports UNB.
As a result of the blockade, traffic movement on the busy highway was severely disrupted, leading to long tailbacks.
