Dhaka, Nov. 7 -- Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said there is no legal barrier to his participation in the upcoming national elections while holding his current post, arguing that the country's top law officer is not a government employee under the Constitution.

Speaking to reporters at his office on Thursday, Asaduzzaman said Article 64 of the Constitution clearly defines the Attorney General as the state's legal representative, not a government servant, and therefore eligible to run for office while still in post.

He dropped a broader hint that he intends to contest the election while serving as the state's chief legal officer.
