Dhaka, June 9 -- Home and Agriculture Adviser lieutenant general (Rtd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that the government will soon enact a new law to protect the agricultural land for the interest of the farmers.

"The roads and highway department used to give three times compensation to the farmers for acquiring their lands but the local government engineering department don't do that," he said this while talking to journalists at Araihazar after visiting the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN).

The adviser claimed that the farmers have produced additional 15 lakh tonnes of Boro paddy this year and for this reason, government may not need to import rice this year, reports BSS.
