Dhaka, Oct. 27 -- The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a case against 44 people, including former Director General of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Dr Rafiqul Islam Mandol, for allegedly recruiting 42 scientific assistants illegally, violating government laws and regulations.

The approval was given on Monday from the ACC headquarters, confirmed by the commission's Deputy Director Md Aktarul Islam.

According to the ACC complaint, in 2013, BARI conducted written and oral exams to fill 20 vacant posts for scientific assistants.

Based on exam results and quota rules, the selection committee recommended 18 candidates for appointment, and BARI officially hired those 18.
