Dhaka, Sept. 2 -- A total of 155 incidents of violence against women and children were recorded in Gaibandha in the last eight months since January 1.
Data shows that most of the victims are school and college students or young children.
According to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, 120 women and children were raped across the district's seven upazilas during this period.
Among them, 14 were between 3 and 10 years old, 87 were aged 11-18, and 19 were over 18. On average, about 15 victims seek hospital treatment each month.
Riktu Prasad, general secretary of Gaibandha Mahila Parishad, said, "The culture of impunity is fueling violence against women."
