Dhaka, Dec. 4 -- Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam has underscored tourism's central role in the island nation's economy and announced plans for a new digital recognition system and electronic travel authorisation platform to streamline arrival procedures for visitors and Mauritians.

Speaking at a Golden Jubilee event of Constance Hotels & Resorts, Ramgoolam called tourism one of the country's fastest job creators and a key driver for economic rebalancing.

He urged stronger public-private cooperation to strengthen the sector amid intensifying global competition.
