Dhaka, July 24 -- Gulf Air has launched the next stage of its fleet modernization with an order for up to 18 Boeing 787s. The order-12 firm and six options-was signed during the official visit of Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalif to Washington DC on July 17.
If all 18 aircraft are eventually acquired, the deal could be worth up to USD 4.6 billion at list prices, although carriers usually negotiate hefty discounts. The aircraft will be powered by GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines.
