Dhaka, Jan. 22 -- Ethiopia's flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines placed an order for nine Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, amid growing demand for long-haul travel, both companies announced on January 20.

Airlines worldwide are ramping up orders for widebody aircraft as international travel demand grows. Carriers are now seeking more fuel-efficient jets to cope with rising operating costs and capacity constraints.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to use the 787-9 aircraft to expand its network beyond the 145 international destinations it serves at present.

"We will continue to acquire more aircraft and adopt the latest technologies as part of our strategic vision to advance sustainable aviation," said Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew.
