Srinagar, April 10 -- Security forces have launched a cordon and search operation in the Marta village of Udhampur district following an encounter with suspected terrorists. Officials said the operation began on Wednesday in the dense forest area near the village of Jopher, under the jurisdiction of Ramnagar Police Station.
Udhampur SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure has confirmed that two to three terrorists are believed to be hiding in the jungle.
"It's a very inaccessible area with steep mountains, a river below, and thick forest cover. The search operation is ongoing," he told media.
The encounter lasted for about two hours, during which the forces retaliated with gunfire. No casualties have been reported so far.
