New Delhi, April 24 -- Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with global technology firm Cisco to upgrade its network infrastructure in a move aimed at improving mobile internet services across India.
The collaboration will see Vi adopt Cisco's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based transport network, which is expected to strengthen the reliability and capacity of its 4G and 5G services. The new system will help Vi handle increasing amounts of data traffic more effectively, leading to more stable and faster connections for users.
With this upgrade, Vi customers may notice smoother video streaming, more consistent video calls, improved online gaming performance, and better browsing experiences. The changes are also expected to benefit businesses by providing more secure and dependable internet access, supporting day-to-day operations in an increasingly digital environment.
According to the company, the modernised network will also allow Vi to manage its services more efficiently through software-based tools, potentially lowering operating costs and speeding up the launch of new services.
Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vi, said the partnership with Cisco reflects the company's efforts to keep pace with developments in mobile technology. "Cisco's expertise in MPLS will help us improve network automation, manage data traffic better, and adapt quickly to changing demands," he said.
Cisco's Vice President for Service Providers in EMEA, Gordon Thomson, added: "With this collaboration, Vi is building a future-ready network. Our solutions will support more reliable and faster connectivity across India."
