New Delhi, May 1 -- Networking solutions provider Netgear has announced the acqui-hire of Chennai-based VaaG Systems, a company specializing in embedded and cloud software. This deal is part of Netgear's three-year plan to accelerate investment in R&D to enhance its current business offerings, the company said in a statement.
The acquisition of VaaG is set to fast-track Netgear's in-house software development capabilities, with the VaaG team forming the core of the company's newly established Software Development Center in Chennai. Over the next 12-18 months, Netgear will add over 100 engineers to the Chennai team as part of expansion and product development efforts, the company spokesperson told TechCircle.
The team brings experience from leading firms such as Qualcomm, HP, Cisco, and MaxLinear, and will focus on leveraging AI to simplify networking for small and medium-sized enterprises. Founded in October 2024, VaaG was led by Sudarsan Vasudevan, who now takes on the role of Vice President of Engineering at Netgear.
"Current networking solutions don't meet the needs of small and medium enterprises. They're stuck with either complex, overpriced systems meant for larger companies or fragmented solutions that don't integrate well and lack proper support," said Business President and GM Pramod Badjate. "We're changing that, offering an integrated solution that is much easier to deploy and manage for MSPs and small IT departments alike. We acknowledge the criticality of networking for these businesses and do not compromise on reliability and support. " Netgear for Business is evolving to better serve small to medium enterprises. The company will now focus on offering simple and cost-effective networking solutions.
Notably, during his visit to India in May 2024, chief executive officer (CEO) Charles Prober inaugurated the company's Bengaluru office expansion. The Indian office of Netear is primarily focused on the core development cycle, towards which the company has also partnered with Capgemini and VVDN. Netgear is currently present in 20 cities and will expand to over 30 by the year end, said Marthesh Nagendra, sales director for India, MENA and SAARC region, Netgear.
