New Delhi, Jan. 16 -- Anthropic, a U.S.-Based artificial intelligence (AI) company and the creator of Claude.ai assistant, appointed Irina Ghose as Managing Director of India on Friday.

India is currently the second-largest global market for Claude.ai usage. Hence, the appointment underscores the company's growing focus on the Indian market as enterprise and developer adoption of AI accelerates.

Ghose brings over three decades of experience in scaling large technology businesses. She most recently served as Managing Director of Microsoft India, where she led the adoption of enterprise AI across various sectors, including banking and financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, technology services, and government. Her career spans leadership roles across enterprise sales, go-to-market strategy, education and ecosystem development.

In her new role, Ghose will lead Anthropic's India strategy, focusing on enterprise adoption, ecosystem partnerships and engagement with policymakers, as the company expands its footprint in the country.

"India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale," said Ghose. "As Indian organisations move from experimentation to applied AI, trust, safety and long-term impact become critical. Anthropic's mission aligns strongly with my belief that technology should create meaningful and inclusive value across India's diverse languages and communities."

Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, said Ghose's experience in driving enterprise transformation made her a strong fit as the company scales globally. "As we deepen our engagement across India's public and private sectors, Irina will help ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission," he said.

According to the company's latest Economic Index, Indian users show a strong focus on technical applications, with nearly half of all usage concentrated in computer science and mathematical tasks.

Anthropic also announced that CEO Dario Amodei and senior executives will visit India in February to officially open the company's Bengaluru office and participate in the India AI Impact Summit. The company said the expansion of its India team will support closer collaboration with enterprises, academic institutions and policymakers, and help build partnerships with developers using AI to address local challenges.
