Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- Construction work on the long-awaited revamp of the Colombo Central Bus Stand will begin tomorrow under the Government's Clean Sri Lanka program. The project, valued at Rs. 424 million, is expected to be completed by April 2026, ahead of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
The Central Bus Stand, built by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) between the 1960s and 1970s, has fallen into serious disrepair after decades of neglect. Access roads, bus terminals, passenger toilets, staff rest rooms, and the administration building are now in a dilapidated state, inconveniencing the nearly 50,000 commuters and transport staff who rely on the facility every day.
