Srilanka, Jan. 11 -- Thousands of women staged a protest in Mathugama yesterday, accusing the Opposition of promoting misogynist attacks against Prime Minister and Education Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. Protesters said an error currently under investigation in a Grade 6 English language module was being used as a pretext to launch gender-based personal attacks on women in public office, undermining democratic values. While acknowledging differences of opinion over education reforms, they said such disagreements should not descend into personal or gender-based abuse.
