Sri Lanka, Nov. 16 -- The Government will take action against any police officer implicated in corruption or misconduct, regardless of rank, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Sunil Watagala said yesterday.

Watagala told the Sunday Observer that the administration had already shown its willingness to act at the highest levels, pointing to the removal proceedings initiated against former Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, whom the NPP administration moved out of office after a parliamentary committee found him guilty of multiple charges of misconduct and abuse of power. "From the top to the bottom, we will proceed wherever wrongdoing is uncovered," he said.
