Srilanka, April 27 -- Francis, the humble Pontiff whose acts of inclusiveness, modesty and mercy rippled through his 12-year Papacy, was laid to rest yesterday in a service he deliberately simplified.

His coffin was transferred to its final resting place in Rome's St. Mary Major Basilica, near an icon of the Madonna that he revered because it reflected his humble and simple life.
