Sri Lanka, Sept. 21 -- Is Sri Lanka's recent legacy to the world or at least the region or sub-continent the art of the Aragalaya? The uprisings in Bangladesh and more recently in Nepal, make this conclusion inescapable. The modus operandi of the seemingly spontaneous uprisings in both countries named, follow the Sri Lankan model to a tee.

There were the street protests that morphed into a free for all in which public property was damaged, and edifices that represented power and incumbency were taken over and destroyed by the mob. Gradually the protests turned into chaos, and elected officials were set upon and murdered in some instances, though in Sri Lanka, these incidents were borderline, and merely tangential to the big picture.
