Singapore, Jan. 18 -- When Hyundai launched its battery-powered Ioniq Electric in Singapore in early 2018, the car made a strong impression with its refinement and silky smooth ride.
It is barely two years and the car has been updated with a juiced-up battery. The lithium-ion polymer battery now has a capacity of 38.3kWh, up from 28kWh. This gives the car a range of 311km, up from 200km.
This improvement reduces the range anxiety that electric car drivers face, which is the fear of the battery running dry before a charging point can be found.
Cars in Singapore clock an average annual mileage of around 16,500km, or about 45km a day. This means that Ioniq Electric, with its 311km range, could last almost a week between charges.
